Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown may be coming to Xbox Game Pass, as suggested by an official listing that appears to have announced its arrival prematurely. The potential release would mark a major boon for the Xbox Game Pass metroidvania library.
Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown launched to stellar reviews in January 2024. The metroidvania spin-off earned the highest, “Mighty” rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 87 and a 96% reviewer recommendation rate. As of September 2025, it also holds 4.23- and 4.2-star ratings on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, respectively, as well as thousands of “Very Positive” user reviews on Steam. No matter the metric, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the highest-rated games of 2024.
Microsoft Lists Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown as New Xbox Game Pass Addition
The acclaimed metroidvania may soon make the jump to Microsoft’s subscription service, as suggested by its unexpected appearance in the “Recently added” section of the Xbox PC app’s Game Pass section. The listing was spotted by XboxEra on September 25, the day Xbox Game Pass received three other titles. However, it has since been pulled from the app, making it unclear whether the announcement was premature or entirely erroneous.
Ubisoft Has Already Started Licensing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown to Subscription Services
Since its early 2024 release, Ubisoft’s metroidvania has never been made available on Xbox Game Pass. However, the company has already started licensing it to third-party subscription services, with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown reaching PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in March 2025. It is still available to PS Plus subscribers as of late September 2025. A near-future Xbox Game Pass release thus appears to be well within the realm of possibility, continuing Ubisoft’s efforts to generate revenue from the title after saying it underperformed initial expectations, despite selling 1.3 million units in its first year.
No mainline Prince of Persia title was ever offered via Microsoft’s subscription service. Looking more broadly, The Rogue Prince of Persia was shadow-dropped on Xbox Game Pass in late August 2025. The Lost Crown would hence double the selection of Prince of Persia games—both current and historical—on the service.
The next confirmed Xbox Game Pass catalog update is scheduled for September 30, when Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be added to its content catalog. That’s also the date when the service is losing Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, which includes the Sigma versions of the first two titles in Team Ninja’s hit series, as well as Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge.
